Research Fellow in Condensed Matter Physics

Updated: over 2 years ago
Location: London, ENGLAND
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 05 Dec 2021

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7.

The London Centre for Nanotechnology has an opening for a postdoctoral researcher to work on epitaxial ferroelectric and antiferroelectric oxide heterostructures. The position is financed by the FET Open project TSAR (https://tsarfetopen.wordpress.com/ ). This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement N° 766726. The aim of the project is to investigate nanoscale ferroelectricity and antiferroelectricity in epitaxial oxide films and multilayers, and to develop proof-of-principle devices based on these materials.

The post holder will be involved in the deposition and structural and electrical characterisation of high quality epitaxial thin films and heterostructures, fabrication of devices and analysis and interpretation of the experimental data. The post holder will also collaborate closely with partners of the TSAR consortium. This position is funded for 24 months in the first instance.

The successful applicant will have (or be about to obtain) a PhD in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics, or related discipline, and expertise in nanoscale (anti)ferroelectricity. Experience with physical vapour deposition of epitaxial thin films and thin film characterisation techniques (X-ray diffraction, scanning probe microscopy, electrical characterization) is desirable.

Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B £32,217 - £33,958 per annum including London Allowance with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
