Applications are invited for an enthusiastic Research Fellow to join the Molecular Biophotonics and Imaging group within the School of Chemistry and Institute for Life Sciences at the University of Southampton.
OrganVision is funded by European Union’s FET Open Horizon-2020 grant in a consortium of researchers and companies from four different European countries. It aims to develop a technological platform for real-time visualizing and modelling of fundamental process in living organoids towards new insights into organ-specific health, disease, and recovery.
The research team at the University of Southampton is responsible for developing ‘OrganLab’ for the OrganVision project and quantitative analysis to understand the mechanical property of the EHT tissue using different multimodal imaging techniques.
The post holder will be responsible for developing/imaging and image analysis on homebuilt ‘OrganVision microscope ’and implementing computational imaging techniques to generate useful data at the University of Southampton. The successful candidate will have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications in Physics, Bio-photonics (spectroscopy, optics, imaging) or optical engineering related fields.
The main qualification and technical requirements that fellow should have are:
- Prior experience in machine learning, computer vision, and/or big data.
- Prior experience in generating, curating, or handling microscopy data.
- Publication record illustrating first author high impact research publications in experimental research in top tier journals/conferences in the field of microscopy, pattern recognition, machine learning, computer vision, distributed computing, or big data.
In additional the following skills and experience are desirable :
- Prior experience in bioimaging, live cell imaging.
- Prior experience with medical images, microscopy images, or fluorescence images
- Track record of developing microscopy image analysis pipelines using existing python codes for image analysis and/or deep learning
- Track record of packaging, releasing, and supporting software packages/ source codes for research communities
- Established track record of collaboration between two or more teams
- High motivation, enthusiasm, and independence
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English
- Excellent work ethic and commitment to work
- Creativity, ability to think outside the box, problem solving orientation are extremely desirable
- Experience in mentorship, leadership, multi-disciplinary research, and international collaborations are desirable,
This post is funded by FET-Open grant under European Union’s Horizon-2020, for the OrganVision project in a consortium of research labs from four different European countries (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/964800 ). The candidate should work in an open collaborating environment of The Molecular Bio-Photonics & Imaging Research Group, at the University of Southampton in collaboration with the research teams of Prof. Sumeet Mahajan and Dr. Dipanjan Bhattacharya. In addition, he should have a good collaborative mindset to collaborate with the other research groups of OrganVision Consortium (https://www.organvision.eu/consortium/ ).
It is a full-time fixed term for 18 months initially and potentially extendable. The work pattern for this position is flexible. It is based in the Institute for Life Sciences on the Highfield campus at the University of Southampton.
