This role will involve the development of a bio-refinery system for organic acid production, bioenergy generation and nutrient recovery. This will involve a range of skills including the design, construction and operation of laboratory-scale membrane process, development of new test procedures and processing of data to assess the performance of the process.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in similar types of laboratory-scale experimental work, along with an insight into issues of scale-up to commercial application. A hands-on approach and excellent practical skills are required, along with a keen interest in developing new ideas from proof-of-principle to implementation.

This project is supported by the Newton Fund: Institutional Links programme between the University of Southampton and Universidad Nacional de Colombia at Palmira. A research visit to Colombia is expected during the project period. 

The position is full time and available for 14 months in the first instance.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
