The Astronomy Group of the University of Southampton's School of Physics & Astronomy invites applications for a postdoctoral research fellow position in AGN modelling. You will be joining an ambitious team and work with Prof Sebastian Hoenig and Dr Calvin Sykes on 3D radiation hydrodynamic simulations and their comparison to high angular resolution observations. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in infrared interferometric observations of AGN, their modelling, and kinematic models of the broad line region. Applications are welcome from both junior and more senior researchers with relevant experience.

The School provides a stimulating and collegial environment with many opportunities to collaborate with members of the astronomy group and beyond. We are strongly committed to diversity in the student and academic population, and you will be supported in developing your career while maintaining a good work-life balance through family-friendly policies. The position will provide you with time and resources to explore and develop independent research.

The post will be available for 3 years on a fixed term basis, full time basis on University of Southampton Level 4. In addition, the University offers an attractive benefits package and relocation assistance. A starting date of 1 September 2024 is targeted but earlier or later dates can be discussed.

If you are interested, please apply via the university’s job portal.

Applications should consist of, CV, publication list, and a brief statement of research interested (2 pages max). Please upload all documents as one pdf file. Moreover, contact details for two references will need to be provided upon application.

Applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
