Research Fellow in Aerostructures

Fixed Term Contract for 3 years

Full time starting salary is normally £35,559 per annum

Location: Cranfield, Bedfordshire

We welcome applications for this exciting new post from those with relevant knowledge and experience in the theoretical or numerical modelling and simulation of structures coupled with aerodynamic forces.

About the Role

This post will be contributing to research on a project as part of a large team. It involves research activities such as ensuring the delivery of the project goals and the participation in the organizational, management and dissemination activities in support of the project. It will also involve supporting the development, exploitation and integration of investigated methods into the in-house aero-engine design frameworks.

About You

To be appointed at Research Fellow level, you will be educated to doctoral level with a PhD in Aerospace Engineering (or close to completion). In addition to the above skills and abilities, you will have knowledge of knowledge of aerostructures (strength and stiffness), structural dynamics and aeroelasticity, and engineering software development. You will be proficient in composing project deliverables, enjoy giving presentations, and be able to assist in project integration workshops and other meetings. With excellent communication skills, you will also be a good team player, and have the ability to cope with pressure. Project planning is also an important skill for this post along with the ability to demonstrate self-motivation, perseverance, and initiative. Ideally, you will also have experience and knowledge of Aerostructure design and FE analysis using CATIA and NASTRAN, multidisciplinary optimization and engineering programming skills (Fortran) and interface with commercial software.
