WMG is leading the development of the underpinning science, technology and manufacturing in vehicle electrification in the UK. We are looking for either a Research Fellow or Project Engineer in Functional Safety to work as part of a team bringing these innovative technology building blocks to novel vehicle electrification solutions. Working with diverse and novel applications, the successful candidate will need to apply their functional safety knowledge across sectors and to novel technologies. The successful candidate will evidence their capability in the area of systems engineering with experience of applying novel techniques such as Systems Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA) for safety analysis. Additionally experience with ISO 26262 and ISO 21448 (or corresponding aviation, rail or manufacturing standards) is required along with experience in safety case development. The work carried out in this role has a potential to influence future national and international (ISO) standards. The successful candidate will be exposed to a variety of industries – aviation, automotive, marine, healthcare etc. and will be working collaboratively with industrial partners.

Strong research experience is required with the ability to be flexible with your work. You will also be responsible for project delivery and providing regular updates to project partners and WMG Intelligent Vehicles’ leadership team.

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in the areas of Systems Engineering, Safety Analysis using STPA (Systems Theoretic Process Analysis), and functional safety analysis for control systems.
