About the team

The Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering under the School of Physics, Mathematics and Computing is renowned for its award-winning researchers, teachers and facilities. The broad-based undergraduate and postgraduate programs are complemented by a wide range of research activities and the School is a leader in developing graduates with high level expertise in computer programming and the methods involved in performing complex computations and processing data. About the opportunity

A unique opportunity to work with a team of renowned scientists in computer vision, including Prof. Richard Hartley (ANU), Prof. Ajmal Mian (UWA) and Dr. Naveed Akhtar (UWA).

The research project will focus on developing techniques and algorithms to secure computer vision deep learning models against adversarial attacks, Trojans and backdoor attacks. It is expected to provide a new perspective on the composition of adversarial examples and the utility of explainable AI in the context of adversarial manipulation of deep learning models.

In addition to leading the blue-sky research, you will co-supervise PhD students and conduct your independent research towards the project goals. Focusing on the fundamental problems in adversarial deep learning, the research outcomes for the project are expected to be published in the top-tier venues.

About you

An ideal candidate will have the following background

PhD in computer vision, machine learning or closely related field A track-record of high-quality research in computer vision or deep learning First-author publications in the leading sources of the field Experience with deep learning frameworks, e.g., Pytorch orTensorflow Desire to build prominent research profile Prior experience with adversarial deep learningis desirablebut not necessary Full details of the position's responsibilities and the selection criteria are outlined in the position description.
