About the opportunity

The Daffodil Centre is a joint venture between the University of Sydney and the Cancer Council whose aim is to combine the strengths of both organisations towards a cancer-free future. We are looking for a Research Fellow to join the organisation and work in partnership with the Daffodil Centre Cervical Cancer and HPV stream to develop and implement solutions that enable the effective management and delivery of the Daffodil Centre strategy.

The role will have a clinical translational research focus and will support the work of the Daffodil Centre in the international arena including in the Indo-Pacific region and in Australia. It will have a particular focus on the third treatment pillar of cervical cancer elimination.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • conduct research or scholarly activities within the area of cervical cancer elimination with a focus on cervical cancer diagnosis and treatment
  • develop and refine research skills and independent research under the supervision of more senior academic staff
  • maintain quality, standards and excellence in any research activities and output
  • undertakes administration primarily related to their activities at the University
  • informally provide mentoring and guidance to Level A academics within the School/ Faculty/Portfolio
  • supervise postgraduate research students or projects, where appropriate
  • develop productive relationships, collaborations and partnerships with external parties (including research partners, government bodies and industry) which will ultimately contribute to improved outcomes for the profession, industry and/or community.

About you

  • hold a PhD/ or equivalent clinical expertise in a field relevant to the discipline
  • clinical and/or research experience in the cervical cancer diagnosis, treatment and palliative care
  • a developing network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders
  • experience in conducting original research and/or engaging in scholarly activity
  • a developing knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the higher education sector
  • demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively across a range of media and forums.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the reasons for the position.
