Job Description
The lab is equipped to perform cellular experimental work (BSL2) on animal and human samples, and has strong translational and clinically orientated background with access to clinical data and human tissue. Given clinical contacts the lab would provide strong interaction with cardiovascular specialists and clinicians. Appointments will be made on a 1-year contract basis, with the possibility of extension.

Purpose of the post
The Research Fellow (RF) will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigator and study team members to work on vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) phenotypic characterisation using single-cell RNA sequencing technology, sncRNA and CRISPR to identify potential therapeutic targets to attenuate inflammation in atherosclerosis, using patient-specific cells as a platform to evaluate and treat cardiovascular disease.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
The RF is expected to:

  • Plan and perform experimental work related to tissue dissociation to single cells and patient-specific cell culture, miRNA transfection, fluorescence activated cell sorting, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, molecular biology including DNA, RNA and corresponding proteomic work;
  • Conduct literature searches, collect and analyse experimental results and research findings;
  • Provide administrative support, such as safety and protocol management, collaboration with other researchers, work on project reports and grant proposals, review proposal opportunities;
  • Teach and supervise research staff members and students in the laboratory;
  • Maintain the highest standard of professional conduct and record keeping in accordance with policies and procedures;
  • Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.
  • Qualifications
    The applicant should:

    • Have a PhD degree in life science;
    • Be skilled in molecular biology and handling human tissue and cell culture; immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence and genetic experience (sncRNA and CRISPR) advantageous;
    • Have knowledge of computer applications, e.g. MS office, SPSS;
    • Be able to work independently and in a team, an investigative nature, attention to detail;
    • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and project management skills;
    • Have ability to mentor and train research staff members and students;
    • Have a proven track record of publications, oral presentations and communication skills
    • Display positive attitude and willingness to learn and work hard, have an investigative nature, attention to detail;
    • Proficient in English, both written and spoken.

    Remuneration will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
