We are happy to announce that we are inviting applications for a 3 year postdoctoral research position in theoretical particle physics and cosmology, in the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Nottingham. The position is funded by the Royal Society research project Reliable gravitational wave predictions for cosmological phase transitions, led by Oliver Gould. In this project we aim to develop quantum field theory tools to better understand cosmological phase transitions, in particular using effective field theory. We recognise the benefit of different perspectives, and previous experience in these topics is not necessarily required. In addition to working in collaboration with Oliver Gould, you will be encouraged to develop and pursue your own approaches to research.
If successful, you will have the opportunity to work as part of a diverse set of researchers in the Particle Cosmology group in the School of Physics and Astronomy. You will also be a member of the Nottingham Centre of Gravity, which brings close connections with the Gravity group in the School of Mathematical Sciences.
You will need to have, or be close to completion of, a PhD in theoretical particle physics or cosmology or a closely related subject, and have a track record of published research in peer reviewed journals. Applicants should submit a CV, publications list (if not included in the CV) and research statement (up to 3 pages). We are particularly keen to receive applications from people who are currently underrepresented in physics, such as women and people from underrepresented ethnic backgrounds.
The position is available fromOctober 2024 on a fixed-term contract until 30th September 2027. The position is full-time (36.25 hours per week); however applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 21.75 hours per week). Please specify in your application if you wish to work part time and the number of preferred hours. Job share arrangements may be considered.
As part of our commitment to improving equality, diversity and inclusion within the school, shortlisted candidates will be given the opportunity to talk to a member of staff representing women, racially minoritised staff , LGBTQIA+ or disabilities communities. This will be separate to the assessment process and will play no role in the decision to appoint.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Oliver Gould ([email protected]). Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
