This is an excellent opportunity if you are an expert in Natural Language Processing and have a keen interest in cybersecurity. We are looking to fill the post from the 1st of February 2024 or as soon as possible.

You will join the Cyber Security Group in the School of Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) at the University of Southampton. You will work on a Cyber-ThreaD research project that aims to support the autonomous decision-making process by providing attacker-oriented defence mechanisms through the usage of a NLP extractor for cyber- attack attribution.

Your main goal will be to extract information and reasonings related to attack/threat attribution from cyber threat intelligence reports. At the current state of the project, you will be looking into the relationships’ extractions from the selected set of reports to be used during the automatic reasoning process of cyber-attack investigation. You should work on publishing the research through high-quality papers in top Security and/or NLP venues as well as presenting the research findings to the project funder and in academic events. You will join a team of cybersecurity experts, thus, having experience in cybersecurity is optional but having an interest in it is welcomed.

Open to researchers from around the world and from diverse backgrounds, the scheme supports those who have the potential and ambition to become leaders in their field, and who want to achieve the remarkable and build an inclusive world.

About you

  • You will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualification and experience in Computer Science or a similar area.
  • Have experience in machine learning. Our ideal candidate is an expert in Natural Language Processing techniques for text extraction.
  • While the project is in the area of cyber-attack investigation, you are not required to be an expert in this area, but a keen interest in cybersecurity will be valued.
  • You will have strong computer programming skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.

The post will be held in the School of Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) (http://ecs.soton.ac.uk ).
