Post-doctoral Research Fellow on Data Systems for Machine Learning
Excellent researchers are invited for a Post-doctoral Research Fellow position at the Department of Computer Science, University of Warwick. The fellow will conduct research on building scalable data systems to support multi-modal machine learning pipelines, and collaborate with industrial partners that operate large data lakes. In particular, the fellow is expected to collaborate with Novartis on an exciting multi-modal machine learning project and work on scaling the machine learning process in terms of both size and variety of data.
Candidates with a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related discipline, and research interests in machine learning or database systems are encouraged to apply. The position is full-time, initially for 12 months with an immediate start and possibility for extension. Job Description
JOB PURPOSE
Undertake research on data management for multi-modal machine learning, and assist the research group’s activities.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Research and scholarship
• Conduct research on scalable data management systems for machine learning.
• Collaborate with the industrial and government partners on scalable data management systems for machine learning.
• Write up and present research work for leading international venues.
• Contribute to preparing project applications to external bodies.
Teaching and Learning Support
• Could be expected to contribute to the teaching and learning programmes in the department.
• May be asked to assist in the supervision and assessment of projects.
Administration and Other Activities
• Attend team meetings and to participate (where necessary) in other working groups.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety in all aspects of work.
• Travel for project collaborations and conferences, as and when required.

Essential Criteria 1
2:1 or above honours degree and possession (or soon to be possessed) of a PhD or equivalent in Computer Science or a closely related discipline. (a)

Proven ability in research and evidence of quality research output in data management or machine learning on topics specifically relevant to this project. (a, b, c)

Ability to initiate, plan, organise, implement and deliver programmes of work to tight deadlines. (a, b, c)

If you have not yet been awarded your PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant on level 5 of the University grade structure (£30,497 pa). Upon successful award of your PhD and evidence of this fact, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of level 6 of the University grade structure (£31,406 pa).
