Vacancy Overview
10 month Fixed-term contract, preferably 01/06/2022 until 31/03/2023, 36.5 hours per week. There may be some flexibility in the start date.
You will assist the Project Investigator, Professor Alison Ribeiro de Menezes, in the successful execution of the AHRC-funded project ‘Voices of Humanitarianism: British Responses to Refugees from Chile’. You will undertake original research under the aegis of this project which will also support the work of the School of Modern Languages and Cultures and develop and enhance its reputation, both internal and external to the University.
The project requires a PDRA to work closely with the PI in the conduct and co-ordination of interviews with project participants in both the UK and Chile. The PDRA will also assist with the delivery of public engagement activities in both countries, including collaboration with the theatre group Ephemeral Ensemble. As PDRA, you will complete one sole-authored article on a topic relating to the project, and another article co-authored with the PI relating to the project methodology. You will also assist in delivering two ECR workshops on the use of interviews in research.
Involvement in this project will provide experience in the conduct of oral history and the composition of an oral archive in conjunction with the Museum of Memory and Human Rights in Santiago, Chile, and the Modern Records Centre, Warwick. There will also be an opportunity to gain experience in public engagement by working with professionals in the cultural sector.

Job Description
JOB PURPOSE
You will assist the Project Investigator, Professor Alison Ribeiro de Menezes, in the successful execution of the AHRC-funded project ‘Voices of Humanitarianism: British Responses to Refugees from Chile’. You will undertake original research under the aegis of this project which will also support the work of the School of Modern Languages and Cultures and develop and enhance its reputation, both internal and external to the University.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Native or near-native competence in written and spoken Spanish and in written and spoken English are essential skills for this position. There is some flexibility in the areas of academic specialism sought from the successful candidate. The School would however be particularly interested in a candidate with a strong background in Latin American Studies or a strong understanding of issues relating to exile and/or migration.
Summary of Research Responsibilities
1. To coordinate and conduct oral interviews with project participants in both the UK and Chile in conjunction with the PI.
2. To coordinate the transcription of project interviews with an appropriate provider.
3. To assist the PI in the planning and delivery of two ECR workshops on oral history methodologies at the University of Warwick.
4. To co-author an article with the PI on the methodological underpinnings of the project.
5. To write a sole-authored article on a topic of research arising out of the project interviews.
6. To assist with public engagement activities relating to the project; you will have the opportunity to collaborate with the PI and the theatre group Ephemeral Ensemble in the production of a theatre piece derived from the project research.
7. To keep in regular contact with the project leader on the progress of project interviews, to attend regular project meetings, and undertake a fair share of any associated administration tasks.
8. To undertake such specific departmental roles as may be reasonably required by the Head of Department.

Upon successful award of your PhD and evidence of this fact, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of level 6 of the University grade structure (£31,406 pa).
