The Department of Biochemistry is seeking to recruit a Research Facilitator to play a key role in supporting the Research strategy of the Department and developing funding opportunities.

This role, reporting to the Departmental Administrator and working closely with the Deputy Head for Research, will support one of the main strategic objectives of the Department to increase and diversify research grant income. Working closely with the Group Leaders, you will develop a strong collaborative environment to foster funding opportunities. This will be achieved through a thorough understanding of the funding landscape within UKRI, EU, Charities, and other funding initiatives.

In addition to bringing this knowledge to the department, the role-holder will play an important part in leading researchers by identifying opportunities, participating in grant preparation, and supporting grant applicants with funder requirements. The role will work closely with the departmental research grant team, will engage with networks in the School of Biological Sciences, the University and externally to promote the Department research portfolio and instigate fundraising. The role will involve close interaction with the Research Operations Office and Research Strategy office.

To achieve the objectives of this role, you will be qualified to degree level, have a strong science background with good scientific writing skills. You will be able to develop and maintain networks, understand funder objectives, and have the skills to present these in a clear and concise manner to others. The post holder should possess excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritise a busy and deadline-driven workload. Knowledge of the research funding landscape and previous grant writing experience is highly desirable.

The post holder will need excellent interpersonal skills with a confident and pro-active approach to dealing with people at all levels of seniority. They will be required to work independently on their own initiative, as well as being part of a team.

Limited funding: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
