The University’s Research and Innovation Services (RIS) forms a key component in the delivery of the University of Dundee strategy, and its associated ambitions for growing its research and enterprise portfolio. RIS is a central function, supporting, enabling, and promoting all aspects of research, impact, economic development, commercialisation and innovation across our academic community and external stakeholders. Working in partnership we deliver the University and Schools’ strategic priorities creating an inclusive research culture where everyone can thrive, excel, and contribute to grow our excellence in research, innovation, and impact regionally, nationally, and globally. Our goal is informing and driving the delivery of our enabling-strategie! s for &#x 201C;Research with Impact” and “Enterprise & Engagement”.

RIS-Research is expanding, and we have an exciting opportunity for a Research Excellence Manager to join the team. We are looking for a highly experienced professional with excellent project management and communication skills and a proven track record in research excellence and assessment and related policy. The postholder will be part of the Research Excellence, Policy and Governance team and play a key role in the delivery of the University’s ‘Research with Impact’ strategy, particularly in terms of academic research quality and performance, visibility and influence.

Key priorities include:

  • Working with our 8 Schools and the academic community to develop and lead an enhanced service to further develop the University’s research excellence as well as the policy and processes to support to support this.
  • Monitoring research KPIs and other metrics, including benchmarking against other institutions, and making recommendations to the University Research and Knowledge Exchange Committee (RKEC) and Schools on how performance can be improved based on a responsible use of research metrics.
  • Managing and overseeing the University’s REF 2029 preparations and submission.
  • Developing, maintaining, and sharing a comprehensive knowledge of external developments and good practice of research excellence and the guidance and criteria for measuring research performance and research excellence.

Who are we looking for?

  • Degree level or equivalent qualifications or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrable experience of working in HE, in particular in the area of research excellence management and assessment and operational experience of a national research assessment submission.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with research systems, research information analytical tools, and research assessment methods and exercises.
  • Proven track record of strategic and operational leadership and delivery on strategic plans.
