Updated: 3 months ago
Location: York, ENGLAND
Job Type: PartTime
Deadline: 21 Feb 2024

Role Description
An exciting opportunity to join our Faculty of Sciences research support team in a senior Grade 6 role that has been created to work flexibly across 22.2 hours per week. As part of a wider faculty team, you will be supporting the department of Environment and Geography, our leading centre for teaching and research on sustainable solutions to the world's environmental issues.

Environment and Geography has an international reputation for innovation and excellence in environmental research and teaching, ranking second in the UK for the impact of its research, with big ambitions to build on current success, to become influential at a global level, and to accelerate the University’s ability to have a positive impact in the world.

We are a team that supports a healthy work-life balance. We encourage the use of flexible working arrangements and with this role we are offering a family-friendly part time position of 22.2 hours per week that can be worked over 3, 4 or 5 days.

Main purpose of the role
The University of York has grown its portfolio of externally-funded research significantly in recent years, and has ambitious plans to continue on this path whilst attracting funding from an increasingly diverse range of funders, partners and investors. A new team of Research Environment and Development (RED) Coordinators is being created in the Faculty of Sciences to work closely with the Senior Leadership Teams in each department to proactively support strategic thinking and the development of new research and related activities.

RED coordinators will be key in helping to create and maintain a positive and supportive research culture. They will have a primary focus on a department/school but will also be part of a wider RED Coordinator team within the Faculty of Sciences. Working collaboratively and flexibly the team will share best practice from their departments/school to develop and deliver events and faculty wide approaches and resources.

RED coordinators will identify and engage with opportunities to build on existing departmental research strengths, maximising on-going activity, as well as developing new areas. This may include for example identifying sources of funding for established research groups; provision of tailored support for individual academic colleagues or defined groups such as Early Career Researchers to develop their approaches to research funding; analysis of internal and external data sources to help inform and shape strategy discussions; or design and delivery of facilitated events and workshops.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • Knowledge of higher education research, including the funding landscape.
  • Knowledge of the areas of engagement, priorities and requirements of key funders.
  • Experience of navigating research culture, policies and processes in a complex organisation.
  • A demonstrable track record of developing large scale funding bids and in assisting others to secure research funding from a variety of different sources.
  • Experience of interdisciplinary research activities.
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and report on complex data and information.

Please see the person specification (available on the university's website, accessed by the 'Apply' button) for full details.

We particularly encourage applications from people who identify as Black, Asian or from a Minority Ethnic background, who are underrepresented at the University.

We offer family friendly, flexible working arrangements, with forums and inclusive facilities to support our staff. #EqualityatYork
