Challenging, interesting and constantly changing, the University of Derby is an extraordinary place to learn and an incredibly rewarding place to work.

Here at the University of Derby we have committed to nurture and encourage research excellence across all our disciplines and career stages, recognising the strong link between excellent research and an excellent student experience.

Our research makes a difference by making an impact on our students, industry (locally, regionally and internationally), policy makers, our international research partners and the wider community.

About the Role

We have entered a new and exciting era for research at the University, making investments in our students, staff and research infrastructure to help us achieve our overall aim of producing research that is high-impact and high-profile and that is beneficial to our stakeholder groups. We are investing in research, supporting our Colleges’ REF 2021 plans, providing doctoral bursaries and in staffing of the our central hub, the University Research and Knowledge Exchange Office (URKEO).

URKEO supports 350 doctoral students and we have nearly 200 research active staff across the University, with over 5400 research outputs recorded on UDORA, our comprehensive, open access repository. Furthermore, as an anchor University our research supports the growth and development of our local communities and economies. We remain in the ‘top 10’ Universities for the highest number of Knowledge Transfer Partnerships being delivered.  We are participating in a number of European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) projects and our collaborative research income, from funders such as Horizon 2020 and Innovate UK continues to rise, engaging our academics with both multinationals as well as small and medium size enterprises. All these funded research activities support innovation, product and business development and competitiveness in our regional economy, as well as internationally.

It is thus an exciting time to be joining us and to play a role in supporting the University’s research and knowledge exchange ambitions. As Research Development Manager you will support horizon scanning, project and partner development and the preparation of high quality applications for research funding.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. The UK Visas and Immigration department requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expect everyone who works for us to also share this commitment and to treat people with courtesy and respect.

We value diversity and wish to promote equality at all levels
