The Role and the Department

The Business School seeks a Research Coordinator to work within the Research Hub.  The successful applicant will assist team supporting the Deputy Executive Dean (Research) to deliver Faculty research objectives. 
In addition to the Deputy Executive Dean (Research) you will be working closely with academic staff and research centres leads to promote and support the research environment in the Business School’s four departments.
This role represents an exciting opportunity to contribute to the thriving research environment at the School and to expand networks across the wider University with colleagues in the Research and Innovation Services and Library and Collections. You will also be sharing knowledge and best practice with the Senior Research Administrators Network.

You will provide a first class, customer focussed administrative service to research active staff and other academic colleagues where appropriate. Therefore the ability to work collaboratively and effectively share information is essential in order to deliver a coordinated and professional level of administrative support. 

Working as part of a small team, your main duties will be varied and interesting and will include event/ conference organisation and management; meeting organisation and diary management.

What you need to demonstrate when you apply/Person Specification

Your application should cover the following criteria:

Essential Criteria   
1.    Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships, both internally and externally.   
2.    Strong digital competence with demonstrable skills in using core digital tools including internet, email, digital communication tools, Microsoft 365 applications, digital booking system, event planning. 
3.    Five GCSE’s at least Grade C or level four (or equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics (or equivalent experience).    
4.    Relevant administrative experience in a busy office environment.    
5.    Demonstrable ability to proactively work with team members to ensure the delivery of high quality services.   
6.    Demonstrable ability to provide advice and guidance to a range of customers and colleagues.   
7.    Experience of working on the front line with service delivery, and the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines without compromising on quality.  
8.    Ability to solve problems as part of a team and resolve issues, plan solutions and make pragmatic decisions.   
9.    Ability to effectively network and exchange advice and information for development purposes.  

10.   A high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
11.   Helpful, friendly personality with the ability to build positive working relationships and deal effectively with staff at all levels.
12.   Demonstrable effective time management, workload organisation and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage conflicting priorities.

Role Delivery

•    Resolve queries and requests for information and advice and escalate more specialist and complex queries or issues to more experienced team members (professional services and academic colleagues). 
•    Respond to stakeholder needs, including support for the Faculty’s research objectives, to deliver and shape an excellent stakeholder experience. 
•    Deliver an administrative support service to the Deputy Executive Dean (Research) and Research Centre Leads to ensure the effective and efficient running of business processes and systems throughout the Faculty to support people and business activities directed at the delivery of the research strategy. 
•    Monitor and evaluate service delivery to ensure compliance with regulatory and professional procedures and standards. 
•    Monitor data accuracy checks to identify anomalies and ensure the integrity of data and information. 
•    Update data and information on systems and media for recording, storing, communicating and informing service users and team members in line with data protection/ GDPR legislation. 
•    Analyse data and statistics regarding research grant income and publications and provide reports for higher level decision makers. 
•    Accurately record information and data and disseminate within internal networks including administrative support for committees. 
•    Prepare written reports for consideration by management where required.

Planning and Organising

•    Plan and organise own workload with or without involvement with project work streams. 
•    Organise and schedule resources, activities and events such as conferences, away days, staff recognition events, international delegations and global debates.

Teamwork

•     Liaise and collaborate with colleagues across professional and administrative areas and in other parts of the organisation to ensure seamless, smooth and efficient service including Research and Innovation Services (RIS) and the Finance Office, contributing to effective collaborative working. 
•    Contribute to collaborative decision making within the team with service provision to deliver an excellent stakeholder experience in accordance with policy and procedures spanning across core business areas e.g. research.  
•    Provide guidance and advice to resolve problems and queries for a broad range of stakeholders. 
•    Liaise with contacts and participate in networks and communities internally and possibly externally, contributing to effective collaborative working. 
•    Advise others and make recommendations into work processes and procedures for consideration by senior management to improve services. 
•    Work with internal and external partners to deliver cross-functional services and activities. 

Knowledge and Experience
•    Apply theory and practice, from academic and professional development and previous knowledge within a service team to support the delivery of the Research Excellence Framework exercise, and to assist with internal governance and working groups.
•    Provide more in-depth independent research and analysis activities within the role. 
•    Contribute to the development and implementation of policy and procedures within own area of working.
