Research Associate x 2 (Fixed Term)

Updated: over 2 years ago
Location: Cambridge, ENGLAND
Job Type: Permanent
Deadline: 17 Oct 2021

The Wellcome - Medical Research Council Cambridge Stem Cell Institute is an international centre of excellence for stem cell research and regenerative medicine. Scientists in the Institute collaborate to advance our knowledge of various stem cell types and to perform pioneering work in translational research areas, providing the foundation for new medical treatments (https://www.stemcells.cam.ac.uk/ ).

The lab of Dr Joo-Hyeon Lee (https://www.stemcells.cam.ac.uk/people/pi/lee ) asks fundamental questions involving how stem cells sense environmental changes and determine their cell fate, and how niches develop and remodel the local environment during lung regeneration and the early stages of disease progression (Ombrato et al. Nature 2019; Choi et al. Cell Stem Cell 2020; Youk et al. Cell Stem Cell 2020; Choi et al. Nature Cell Biol. 2021).

We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Research Associates to investigate mechanisms that lead to cellular reprogramming and lineage plasticity in lung regeneration and disease state. The successful candidates will benefit from exciting preliminary findings and highly innovative experimental model systems (e.g. novel genetic mouse models, ex vivo mouse and patient-derived human organoids, single cell based platforms, high-resolution imaging platforms, biophysical modelling, etc.) enabling functional interrogation of cell fates and states. Expertise in molecular biology, development and stem cell biology, mouse genetic models of lineage tracing techniques, primary cell cultures, flow cytometry, and computational biology skills would be highly desirable. Strong background in metabolism and epigenetics would be an advantage, but not a prerequisite. Candidates will work closely with lab members and collaborators to ensure the quality of our work.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD, an equivalent research doctorate. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once PhD has been awarded.

Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £27,116 - £31,406 Research Associate: £33,309 - £40,927.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Dr Joo-Hyeon Lee at [email protected] . Start date is flexible but can be as early as November 2021.

The closing date for all applications is Sunday 17 October 2021 with interviews to be confirmed at a later date.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 36 months in the first instance.
