Research Associate

Updated: 4 months ago
Location: City of Leicester, ENGLAND

About the role

We are currently inviting applications for a postdoctoral research associate (PDRA) position, to study the synthesis of  fine chemicals via electrochemistry use single atom catalysts (SACs). This a 1-year project funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and will be based in the School of Chemistry at University of Leicester. The School of Chemistry and College of Science and Engineering are equipped with a range of routine characterisation techniques (e.g., XRD, SEM, TEM, ICP, Raman, GC-MS, GC, NMR etc.).

In this project, we will exploit the inherent properties of SACs to revolutionise fine chemical synthesis by creating completely new heterogeneous electrochemical cross-coupling strategies. The main objectives of this research project are summarised as follows: (1) Synthesis of heteroatom doped carbon supported SACs. (2) Development of electrocatalytic cross-coupling strategies (3) Mechanistic studies using operando XAS and synchrotron-based Mössbauer spectroscopy via collaboration with Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP). It is expected that the PDRA will spend up to 3 weeks at DICP (Dalian, China) during the 1-year project.

About you

The candidate should have a PhD degree (or about to be awarded a PhD) in electrochemistry or a closely related subject, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Expertise in material synthesis and/or organic synthesis is highly desirable.
This position is available from 1st  February 2024, with a start date as soon as possible and no later than 1st  April 2024.
