A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the group of Prof Varinder Aggarwal for chemists with research experience in organic synthesis.

  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously, particularly the design and synthesis of complex molecules, and the development of new synthetic methodology primarily based on organoboron chemistry.
  • Work with the principal investigator to design, plan and orchestrate research projects within the team.
  • Lead groups of undergraduate and postgraduate students, and less experienced postdoctoral members of the team.
  • Organise and chair weekly organic synthesis problem sessions for the team.
  • Help with the training and supervision of PhD and final year project students
  • Recent experience in synthetic organic chemistry.
  • Be able to plan and execute experimental work involved in organic syntheses successfully and safely with minimal supervision.
  • The ability to analyse and optimise experimental results.
  • The ability to take accurate and reliable records of work carried out.
  • The ability to carry out, interpret and properly record the results of modern spectroscopic techniques, including NMR.
  • Familiarity with online database searching e.g. Belstein, Reaxys and SciFinder for use in the selection and planning of experimental work.
  • A first degree and PhD in Organic Chemistry.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to educate, interact effectively with and enthuse postgraduate students and post-doctoral colleagues.
  • Academic Record: A body of published work in peer-reviewed learned journals relevant to the advertised post.

Salary: £37,099 - £41,732 per annum
