Job Type: FullTime

The Psychopharmacology Research group is seeking to appoint a research associate to support the lab head in their research and teaching activity. The group specialise in animal behaviour with research themes addressing fundamental questions relevant to the symptoms of psychiatric disorders and animal welfare. The group runs specialist behavioural assays designed to provide translational readouts of cognitive and affective behaviours. These behavioural studies are complemented by different neuroscientific methodologies including methods to directly manipulate brain function or record brain activity in awake behaving animals, post-mortem studies of neural and neurochemical mechanisms and in vitro and ex vivo electrophysiology. The group is funded by a mixture of UKRI, charity and industry grants and undertakes both collaborative and contract research with the pharmaceutical industry. The research team includes PDRAs and specialist technicians as well as post-graduate and undergraduate students. Alongside the research programme the group is developing an animal welfare focused educational programme, the 3Hs and actively involved in public engagement initiatives.

The role holder will be involved in supporting the running of the Psychopharmacology Research group. They will work under guidance to facilitate the day-to-day management of the research group including inputting to the design of experiments, training of more junior staff and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students. They will also provide support for student-related activities including undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research project supervision.

We are seeking to appoint a post-doctoral researcher with prior experience of behavioural neuroscience and research into psychiatric disorders. The project will involve working as part of a team including external industrial collaborators and requires excellent communication skills. We are also looking for someone who has the desire to support others and will support the training of under-graduate and post-graduate students. The majority of the role will involve supporting the management on in vivo animals studies so previous experience of animal work and a Home Office personal license is essential.
