Research Associate / Senior Research Associate

The role holder will be working as part of the Genomics Facility team, a core facility located in the Life Sciences Building, providing genomics and transcriptomics services and support to researchers at Bristol University and external institutions.

You will work in the laboratory on a range of molecular projects which may include next-generation sequencing and library preparation, nucleic acid QC and analysis, high-throughput genotyping and gene expression microarray studies. You will liaise with facility users to provide advice on experimental design and the best approach for a project along with anticipated costings for proposed work. You will be responsible for receiving and storing samples, processing them according to standard operating procedures, performing quality control checks and disseminating results to facility users. You should keep up to date with the latest developments in molecular biology techniques by reading appropriate literature and attending relevant seminars, workshops, conferences, and meetings. Identifying and developing new techniques and services where appropriate. You will also support the Genomics Facility team in the organisation, creation and delivery of promotional events such as presentations and newsletters.

  • You have a PhD (awarded or imminent) in molecular biology or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • You have previous experience working in a laboratory-based molecular biology environment.
  • You are organised and efficient, with the ability to manage and prioritise workload to meet facility objectives and deadlines. Able to adapt to different challenges with a logical and methodical approach.
  • You have the ability to test, implement and troubleshoot applications and a willingness to develop and adopt new approaches and techniques.
  • You have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
