As part of the Bristol Composites Institute (ACCIS) at the University of Bristol, there is an exciting opportunity to join a strong team in the research of manufacturing of composite structures. The post is part of the EPSRC funded SIMPROCS project – SIMulation of new manufacturing PROcesses for Composite Structures.
The role holder will develop and deploy numerical tools for the prediction of composite manufacturing processes, based on a physical understanding of the underlying mechanisms. The work will run in close collaboration with researchers conducting experimental testing, which will provide essential information for model generation and validation. High quality numerical analysis is a crucial part of the process of understanding the process of defect generation in manufacture of composite structures. You will work on development of custom written codes, application of commercial finite element software and development of user subroutines, and also work on industrially relevant projects for technology transfer.
You will have a MEng in Engineering/Materials Science or closely related discipline and ideally a PhD in Engineering/Materials Science. You will also have good experience of finite element analysis techniques, programming and composites manufacturing processes.
Appointment will be made on an open ended basis with funding for up to 2 years in the first instance. It is anticipated that interviews will take place in February 2019.
Informal enquiries can be made to Prof. Stephen Hallett (Stephen.Hallett@bristol.ac.uk ) or Dr Jonathan Belnoue (Jonathan.Belnoue@bristol.ac.uk ).
We appreciate and value difference, seeking to attract, develop and retain a diverse mix of talented people that will contribute to the overall success of Bristol and help maintain our position as one of the world’s leading universities.
