Offer Description

The Role

You are invited for a Research Assistant/Associate position in developing a robust, carbon-neutral & cost-effective process to treat sludge and to recover valuable materials and clean water from it. It is a prosperity partnership, collaborative research project with a manufacturing and process development company located in Carlisle. This EPSRC funded 3-year position will be based in Chemical and Civil Engineering group within the School of Engineering.  You will join a diverse community of colleagues based in Newcastle in our newly renovated Stephenson Building.

You will have the opportunity to collaborate with multidisciplinary academic colleagues in the school as well as industry partners such as wastewater treatment companies and the more broader water industry to design and develop sustainable sludge valorisation technology to achieve the goals of the project.

You will play a key role in establishing and optimising protocols, designing, and implementing experiments, supporting students with their research projects as well as writing reports/papers for publications and dissemination.

We are keen to hear from those of you who have a keen interest in the field of environmental engineering or chemical engineering.  To be highly successful in this role, you will bring with you experience and knowledge in chemical processes including all steps from experimental design to sample preparation, materials characterisation, and data analysis along with a good publication record. Experience in computer programming, simulation and data management is also essential. We are particularly interested in hearing from people who can demonstrate good organisational and communication skills with the demonstrable experience of working independent and in a team.
