We are currently seeking a talented and highly motivated postdoctoral researcher in computational biology to join the Department of Public Health and Primary Care (DPHPC) and the Cambridge Baker Systems Genomics Initiative (CBSGI). The post will suit an ambitious researcher, who is interested in applying their skills to the development of methodologies or to applied analysis of genomic and multi-omic data. In particular, we are interested in tackling the challenge of Variant2Function (V2F) by (i) developing methods to infer causal networks in high-dimensional data, and (ii) connecting genetics to cellular and tissue-level variation. 

The primary role of the post holder will be to lead projects involving the biostatistical analysis and interpretation of genomic and phenotypic data as well as the development of new methodology using the Unit’s vast portfolio of genetic, multi-omic and EHR data. 

The Cambridge Baker Systems Genomics Initiative is an international partnership between the DPHPC and the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute (Melbourne, Australia). CBSGI conducts world-leading interdisciplinary research with a major focus on the development of statistical and machine learning approaches as well as the application of bespoke approaches to multi-omics data from studies of >100,000 participants, with the goal of improving the prediction and prevention of cardiometabolic, respiratory and related diseases.

The preferred candidate will have a PhD in one of the following subjects: Statistical Genetics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics or similar or equivalent experience. They will also have strong quantitative (in silico) analysis skills using statistical programming packages such as R or similar and experience working on computing clusters/computers running Linux based operating systems. 

*Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience), including those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD. Where a PhD has yet to be, awarded appointment will initially be made at research assistant and amended to research associate when PhD is awarded. (PhD needs to be awarded within 6 months of the start date).

This position is available full-time or part time minimum of 80% FTE per week. Funds are available for 2 years from commencement in post.
