Research Associate (Lab Manager) (Fixed Term)

Updated: over 2 years ago
Location: Cambridge, ENGLAND
Job Type: Permanent
Deadline: 05 Oct 2021

The Wellcome Trust - Medical Research Council Cambridge Stem Cell Institute is an international centre of excellence for stem cell research and regenerative medicine. Scientists in the Institute collaborate to advance our knowledge of various stem cell types and to perform pioneering work in translational research areas, providing the foundation for new medical treatments (https://www.stemcells.cam.ac.uk/ ).

The Vallier lab based at the Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre takes advantage of human pluripotent stem cells and primary organoids to understand early human development and to generate cells with a clinical interest for modelling liver diseases and cell-based therapy. More precisely, they investigate the molecular mechanisms controlling cell fate decisions during human development and exploit the resulting knowledge to produce liver cells including hepatocytes and cholangiocytes. The resulting cells are currently used to study liver diseases and to develop regenerative medicine applications. Related research in the Vallier Lab includes genetic screen to identify new factors controlling liver diseases, identification of new targets for drug development against NAFLD/NASH, investigation of molecular mechanisms controlling liver organogenesis and regenerative processes in chronic liver diseases.

We are currently looking for a highly motivated individual to become the Research Associate (Lab Manager) of our research team devoted to understanding liver development and liver diseases. More precisely, we are looking for a dedicated Research Associate (Lab Manager) to support our ambitious and exciting projects aiming to develop new therapies against liver disease. The post holder will be in charge of procurement for our research team and to order consumables, to manage health and safety aspects, to monitor budget, to archive sample/cells and to write lab SOPs/protocols, to organise lab space and equipment maintenance. Importantly, the post holder will be offered multiple opportunities to participate in research projects. We are particularly interested in individual with a strong interest in developing protocols for molecular biology and genome wide analyses.
