Research Associate in the Economics of Net Zero

We are seeking a Research Associate to work on the Productive and Inclusive Net Zero (PRINZ) project. PRINZ project will undertake multi-disciplinary empirical research, knowledge transfer and engagement activities to inform the UK debates on economic productivity, regional prosperity and the transition to net zero greenhouse gas emissions. SSEE leads the work stream on the macro perspective on net zero, productivity and growth, and will contribute to other streams of work on regional productivity, net zero technologies, and innovation strategies. You will be a self-starting, proactive and versatile candidate who has a strong background in academic research, a passion for the transition towards to net zero economy, and a commitment to support the translation of academic knowledge into actionable advice, education, and engagement.

The successful candidate will contribute to the research and engagement activities of PRINZ and lead the research on the future of UK productivity under net zero scenarios. You will lead our work on innovation and productivity in the net zero transition, using mostly quantitative methods from macroeconomics, economic geography, and quantitative innovation studies. The post is a great opportunity to develop a network of research and policy collaborators in the UK. You will collaborate in the preparation of research publications and policy briefs and present papers. You will also support the group in the convening of experts and stakeholders, including through organising conferences, workshops or seminars.

You must hold, or be close to completion of, a PhD/DPhil in economics, environmental economics, economic geography, operations research or in a quantitative discipline. You will possess sufficient specialist knowledge of climate economics and/or green growth, and be familiar with at least one of the following areas: macroeconomics, econometrics, growth accounting and productivity, environmentally extended national accounts, or quantitative innovation studies using patent data. You will demonstrate excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and engage with a diverse set of academic colleagues as well as stakeholders in policy and practice. A track record of (contributing to) publications and presentations, appropriate to career stage is essential.
