Job description
Job summary

A Research Associate position in Organic Materials and Supramolecular Chemistry is available within the group of Dr Becky Greenaway (greenawaylab.com ) at the Department of Chemistry. Research in the Greenaway lab centres around high-throughput automation for the synthesis of molecular organic materials and supramolecular assemblies, including non-conventional porous phases such as liquids and melt-quenched glasses.

The position, funded by a Royal Society Enhancement Award, will primarily involve the design, synthesis, and characterisation, of new building blocks for molecular organic materials. This is planned to be followed by investigating their use in the formation of supramolecular organic assemblies with the aim of accessing new phases of porous organic materials.

Duties and responsibilities

  • You will design, synthesise and characterise custom building blocks for molecular organic materials

  • You will take initiatives in the planning of research, as well as help to direct the work of undergraduate and postgraduate students in the group

  • You will help manage the day-to-day lab operations including the monitoring of health and safety in the Greenaway group

Essential requirements

You should have, or be near completion of, a PhD in Chemistry, with extensive experience in multi-step organic synthesis, purification techniques, and characterisation. A background in supramolecular chemistry or porous organic materials would be advantageous but is not essential.

There will be an opportunity to assist in the supervision of PhD candidates and undergraduate students working in the group, and the role will also involve close interactions with both internal and external collaborators.

Further information

This is a full-time, fixed position for 12 months, based at White City Campus.
