The post will lead on predictive modelling for a BBSRC grant at Bristol Veterinary School entitled ‘AI to monitor changes in social behavior for the early detection of disease in dairy cattle’.
The postholder will be responsible for development of a machine learning predictive model for the creation of a fundamentally novel kind of early disease detection system based on early behaviour changes rather than later clinical manifestations of disease. The early disease detection system will link the changing behaviour detected by machine vision classifiers together with production and health characteristics of each animal in order to predict the early onset of ill health, including mastitis and lameness.
The role includes writing up the research for publication and dissemination to academic and industrial stakeholders. The researcher will be expected to work on their own initiative, planning and organising their own work activities and priorities as required.
Contract type: Open ended with funding for 13 months
Work pattern: Full time
Grade: I - Pathway 2

We recently launched our strategy to 2030 tying together our mission, vision and values.
The University of Bristol aims to be a place where everyone feels able to be themselves and do their best in an inclusive working environment where all colleagues can thrive and reach their full potential. We want to attract, develop, and retain individuals with different experiences, backgrounds and perspectives – particularly people of colour, LGBT+ and disabled people - because diversity of people and ideas remains integral to our excellence as a global civic institution.
