This post is part-time, 24.5 hours per week and fixed-term for 18 months.

We are seeking to appoint a talented Research Associate to lead an exciting industry-funded project involving a placebo-controlled cross-over study to assess the efficacy of a novel nutritional supplement in human volunteers. The post holder will work with Professor M. Gulrez Zariwala, Dr. Sanjoy Deb, Dr. Rumy Begum and external project partners. They will be involved in all aspects of the research project, including data collection, analysis and dissemination of relevant project outcomes. 

The project aims to assess the impact of the nutritional supplement on stress, cognition and mental health. A variety of established, as well as innovative research methods, will be used to determine the efficacy of the nutritional supplement, including both psychological and biological markers. The project will provide an exciting opportunity for a researcher to develop a career in a topical, interdisciplinary field that has significant scientific as well as industry relevance.

The post holder will be a part of the University’s Centre for Nutraceuticals, which sits within the School of Life Sciences. The Centre for Nutraceuticals is a first-of-its-kind initiative in the area of nutraceuticals, supplements, and functional foods that acts as a catalyst for improving health and wellbeing guided by research, innovation and partnerships with sector-leading organisations globally.

The post holder will:

Assist in study design and gaining ethical approval, conduct participant recruitment, collect and analyse biological samples as well as psychometric data, keep accurate records, maintain study documentation, analyse data using appropriate statistical packages, and prepare reports summarising the work.

Candidates should possess a degree or equivalent in human nutrition, physiology or a related biomedical/life sciences discipline. A relevant postgraduate qualification and experience and an interest in the field of nutraceuticals, functional foods and human intervention studies will be an advantage. Candidates are expected to have good communication skills and a willingness to work collaboratively within a team with shared aims and goals.
