Research Associate in Experimental Economics (with Lab Manager responsibilities)

Updated: 13 days ago
Location: City of Leicester, ENGLAND

About the role
The University of Leicester School of Business (ULSB) is growing its portfolio of behavioural science research. As part of this strategy, the School of Business established 8 years ago a dedicated state-of-the-art research laboratory, Leicester EXperimental ECONomic (LEXECON) Laboratory, to implement social and economic experiments. Recently, we created the Behavioural and Economic Sciences (BeES) cluster, which hosts LEXECON and brings together different theoretical and empirical efforts across behavioural and economic sciences to deliver cutting-edge research enhancing our understanding of human behaviour.

To build on that effort, we are now offering a full-time Research Associate in Experimental Economics.

This position offers to a researcher the opportunity to develop their research portfolio as part of the cluster of excellence in Behavioural and Economic Sciences (the BeES Cluster) featuring a number of scholars, who have published in top journals in economics (e.g., American Economic Review; Econometrica; Economic Journal; Journal of Economic Theory; Journal of Public Economics; Quarterly Journal of Economics) and beyond (e.g., Management Science; Judgement and Decision Making).

You will also oversee the efficient operation of LEXECON and its associated resources, including web-based volunteer registration systems (such as the Online Recruitment System for Economic Experiments – ORSEE). Reporting to the BeES Cluster Director, you will liaise with the LEXECON Initiative Lead. In addition, you will be required to perform the following duties: (i) to engage in research of a quality commensurate with publications in leading international economics/behavioural science journals; (ii) to play a full role in the intellectual life of the BeES cluster (opportunities for collaborations with colleagues in areas of shared research interests will be available); (iii) to taking part in the relevant department seminars, workshops and other academic events; (iv) to present their research at international conferences and research workshops; (v) ensure the day-to-day operation of the lab systems; (vi) contribute to the broader strategic and operational management of the lab (e.g., managing implementation of some experiments including those on online platforms like Prolific).
About you
With a PhD (or close to completion) in economics or a related field, you will be a recognised expert in experimental economics, alongside experience in conducting economic experiments.

We are looking for someone with a proven ability to initiate, develop and deliver high-quality research, alongside the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams. Familiarity with software (or computer programming) suitable for the implementation of economic (or social science) experiments is essential, e.g. z-Tree; O-Tree; ORSEE.

Great communication skills are key, alongside an ability to plan, organise, implement and deliver programmes of work.
Additional information

Please contact the BeES cluster Director, Prof Fabio Tufano ([email protected]), if you would like to find out more about this exciting opportunity. We look forward to hearing from you.

We anticipate that interviews will take place during week commencing 29 April 2024.
