Job summary

Dr Sarah Marzi invites applications from dynamic, creative, and highly motivated molecular biologists for a postdoctoral Research Associate position to lead on a large-scale MRC project investigating gene regulation in Alzheimer’s disease (https://ukdri.ac.uk/news-and-events/mrc-awards-1-5-million-for-project-examining-genes-in-alzheimers-disease ).  

With strong molecular biology experience of genomic/ epigenomic approaches, you will use a range of methods for brain tissue analyses including next generation RNA sequencing, ChIP sequencing and CUT&Tag/TIP-seq (or equivalent) and ATAC sequencing methods.


Duties and responsibilities

Building on strong laboratory experience in molecular biology, you will:

  • Design and perform experiments to address key questions in Alzheimer’s disease
  • Integrate multiple methodologies as part of well-designed research plans that efficiently address and resolve fundamental research questions
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary research team
  • Demonstrate an aptitude for an organised, methodical approach to your work
  • Lead in preparation of research outcomes for publication

This role will be part of the UK Dementia Research Institute at Imperial College London , located in the Department of Brain Sciences .  Postdocs in the UK DRI at Imperial enjoy excellent career development opportunities with:

As a Research Associate in the UK DRI, you will:

  • Build on your existing skills and experience to address major components of this project independently.
  • Present research findings as written reports, at conferences, within the College and as published manuscripts.
  • Take initiative in the planning of research, with clear and timely communications to the Group Leader and relevant researchers.
  • Contribute to the smooth running of the lab and facilities, acting collegiately with other scientists, clinicians, technicians and students
  • Provide guidance to staff and assist in the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research students, as required
  • Maintain highly organised and accurate records of experimental work
  • Undertake appropriate scientific and professional training.

Essential requirements

You will be a motivated and organised researcher, excited by the science we do.

You will hold (or be near completion of) a PhD in Molecular Biology (or related discipline), with practical experience of molecular biology and biochemistry techniques.

Experience of genomics methods is essential.


Further information

This position is offered full time, initially for a period of one year with the potential for renewal.

Appointments are typically made to the first spine point of the scale. Applicants who have not yet had their PhD degree awarded will be appointed to the Research Assistant scale.
