Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher to join the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Health Protection Research Unit (HPRU) in Chemical & Radiation Threats & Hazards (CRTH ) at Imperial College London. You will play a central role in advancing the field of environmental epidemiology within the unit, which is closely linked to the Medical Research Council (MRC) Centre for Environment & Health (CEH ) and the NIHR HPRU in Environmental Exposures & Health (EEH ).

Your work will be conducted in close collaboration with the UK Health Security Agency (HSA ). Within the broader remit of the HPRU CRTH, this position will include supporting research being conducted in various epidemiological cohort studies which focus on impacts of the environment on human health, in particular, radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF).

We are looking for a self-motivated epidemiologist/ statistician/ data analyst, with an advanced degree in epidemiology, medical statistics, or relevant quantitative discipline, and demonstrable experience handling large complex medical/health research datasets and strong statistical knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities

The post holder will work with a range of data (e.g. longitudinal questionnaire, routine health records, omic data, mobile phone traffic datasets, radio use among police officers and staff), undertaking in-depth data checking and cleaning to achieve high levels of data quality, and performing epidemiological analyses to investigate the possible health effects environmental exposures on various health outcomes, under the guidance of senior researchers.

Under the supervision of Professors Mireille Toledano and Paul Elliott , you will be based at the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics within the School of Public Health at Imperial College (http://www1.imperial.ac.uk/publichealth/departments/ebs/), working closely with other collaborators and researchers on the COSMOS, SCAMP and Airwave studies. The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics has attracted an excellent multi-disciplinary team interfacing across epidemiology, database programming, bioinformatics, geographical information systems, and statistical methodology. This environment provides strong opportunities for continuing professional development.

Essential requirements

  • Hold a PhD in epidemiology or medical statistics or a closely related quantitative discipline and have demonstrable experience of the statistical analysis of large scale complex epidemiological data.
  • A solid understanding of epidemiological concepts and techniques that apply to a wide range of study designs.
  • Highly- motivated and extremely organised with experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams.

Further Information

The post is full time and fixed term for two years in the first instance based at the White City Campus of Imperial College London.
