We are seeking an outstanding Research Associate to undertake research for the EEIST project. The role will contribute directly to the new climate and energy-related economic and social modelling being conducted as part of EEIST. The EEIST project is developing and applying innovative policy assessment and complexity economics modelling approaches in the UK, China, India, Brazil and the EU.
The successful candidate will manage their own academic research and administrative activities. This will involve small scale project management, to coordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. You will adapt existing and develop new research methodologies and materials. You will collaborate in the preparation of research publications, and book chapters. Specifically, you will contribute to the development of a new data-driven systems mapping approach, using a range of quantitative and qualitative data sets to build and analyse large system maps (i.e. directed cyclic networks representing causal and influence relationships in a system). You will apply this approach to study the interaction of the post-carbon transition, the economy, and the Sustainable Development Goals, in line with EEIST stakeholder needs. You may also provide research support to other modelling efforts within EEIST where needed.
You must hold, or be close to completion, of a relevant PhD/DPhil. These may come from a broad set of backgrounds and subjects, for example, you may have a background in the social sciences but have experience making use of computational and/or sophisticated statistical methodologies; or you may have a background in the computer or mathematical sciences, and have worked on social, economic, and policy questions. You will possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes. Previous experience of contributing to high-quality high-impact publications/presentations is essential. You will have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings.
Applications are particularly welcome and encouraged from women, black, and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in posts in SoGE. SoGE and SSEE are committed to equality and value diversity.
This is a full-time post offered for 1 year.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.
The closing date for applications is 12:00 noon on Friday 19 November 2021, and interviews will be late November 2021.
