A Research Associate position is available from 28th February 2024. We are seeking to employ a motivated person with a background in analytical chemistry and metabolomics to support a range of exposome and toxicological analyses being conducted in within the Horizon 2020 ATHLETE consortium. The successful candidate will take up the role as an analyst in the laboratory of Dr Hector Keun.


Duties and responsibilities

The post-holder will be responsible for NMR/LC-MS metabolomics/lipidomics protocol development and applications, development of data analysis and metabolite annotation pipelines, processing and annotation of metabolomics data, advise on design of biological experimental protocols, and data management.  In addition, the candidate will provide support/training to research staff, MRes, MD and PhD students within or associated with the group.


Essential requirements

  • PhD in an area related to metabolomics, biomarkers and metabolic biochemistry

  • Knowledge & experience of LC-MS based metabolomics using Sciex Zeno TOF MS

  • Knowledge & experience of LC-MS based lipidomics

  • Knowledge & experience of computational and statistical procedures for analysing targeted and untargeted metabolomics data

  • Knowledge of metabolic biochemistry

  • Knowledge & experience with mammalian cell culture and basic molecular techniques such & PCR

  • Experience with preparation of human biosamples (e.g. serum/plasma)

  • Knowledge & experience of NMR-based metabolomics

  • Publications in LC-MS metabolomics, lipidomics and NMR based metabolomics of human biospecimens

  • Knowledge of exposome research

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £40,694 to £43,888 per annum

Hybrid working may be considered for this role.  Staff working in roles that are suitable for hybrid working will normally be expected to work 60% of their time onsite. The opportunity for hybrid working will be discussed at interview.
