Research Associate- IDRIC (Fixed Term) x 2

Are you interest in working on the reduction of Greenhouse Gases in industry and meeting the UK's net zero targets?

Centre for Sustainable and Circular Technology (CSCT) at the University of Bath as part of the UK's new Industrial Decarbonisation Research and Innovation Centre (IDRIC) are currently recruiting Research Associates to undertake life cycle work to ensure optimal GHG impact. Working with other staff on the project, you will work together together to create a common life cycle based framework to enable effective comparison across the projects. This will then be more widely shared within IDRIC.

Our ideal applicant will posses

• A PhD degree in subject area of direct relevance for the project, or equivalent significant relevant experience and professional qualification
• Experience in life cycle thinking and life cycle assessment in the decarbonisation area
• Ability to organise and prioritise own workload
• Excellent oral, interpersonal and written communication skills
• Ability to work within a team

Two linked positions are being advertised at Bath to work across individual projects within IDRIC:

• VFA Factory: this project will create a novel pilot bioreactor to convert industrial waste carbon to Volatile Fatty Acids (VFAs) which are a valuable platform chemical. Three novel microbial processes will be used to enable this and the candidate(s) role in this project is to determine how to optimise the system (at various scales) for GHG reduction.
• BioBalance: this project looks at bio and land based carbon management to enable industry to meet negative emissions. This research will determine how negative emission approaches from land use can be integrated into industrial approaches and how wastes and by products from industry can be used in the local community to create a circular economy.

Both positions will be based in Department of Mechanical Engineering . There are currently two fixed term positions available, one for an expected duration of 15 months and the other is up to 21 months.
