Location: Loughborough, ENGLAND
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering, Fixed-term for 36 months

Are you an experienced and ambitious researcher looking for the next challenge? Do you have a background in robotics or human-machine interaction? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading industrial robotics research centers?

We are looking for world-class research associate who wants to challenge the status quo in industrial robotics.

You will join the Intelligent Automation (https://www.lboro.ac.uk/research/intelligent-automation/ ) research team at Loughborough University working at the forefront of industrial human-robot and robot-robot collaboration. You will be part of the EPSRC funded projects IRaaS - Industrial Robots-as-a-Service (https://iraas.net/ ) and the Made Smarter Innovation – Research Centre for Smart, Collaborative Industrial Robotics (https://gow.epsrc.ukri.org/NGBOViewGrant.aspx?GrantRef=EP/V062158/1 ). The ambition is creating new robotics and automation solutions that naturally collaborate with people and other robots, proofing that human-robot teams can jointly carry out complex collaborative tasks with efficiency and quality exceeding those of monolithic dedicated systems. This will transform the responsiveness of traditionally difficult to change automation systems.

What will you be doing?

  • Undertake fundamental and applied human-robot collaboration research involving the development of vision and force/torque sensing, machine learning, and adaptive control technologies.
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary, multi-institute team on the development of the robots-as-a-service concept and emerging cobotics technology in manufacturing.

You should apply if:

  • You have, or are expecting to receive, a PhD in collaborative robotics, human-machine interaction, or related disciplines.
  • You are keen to work at the cutting edge of human-robot collaboration and industrial robotics research and development.
  • You are excited about working in a multi-disciplinary team to explore human-machine interaction technologies that are directly applicable to industry.

If you have any queries regarding the vacancy, please contact Professor Niels Lohse, Director of the Intelligent Automation Centre ([email protected] ).

We will provide both training and mentoring opportunities to enable everyone in the team to unlock their full potential.

We will consider flexible and part-time working wherever possible.

Loughborough University is committed to achieving equality and valuing diversity in all aspects of employment and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
