Research Associate (Fixed Term)

Updated: over 2 years ago
Location: Cambridge, ENGLAND
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 26 Aug 2021

We are looking for an enthusiastic, inquisitive and skilled Research Associate to join the group of Dr Daniel Hodson at the Wellcome MRC Cambridge Stem Cell Institute and the Department of Haematology based in the Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

The post-holder will develop and lead a pioneering research project addressing the functional impact of genetic alterations in diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL). This CRUK-funded project will employ new experimental strategies, developed within the Hodson group to modify the genetics of normal human B cells to build "synthetic", experimental models of human lymphoma (Caeser et al. 2019 Nature Communications). Experiments will employ custom-built CRISPR and mutant open reading frame (ORF) libraries to recapitulate the genetic alterations found in DLBCL. This will allow high-throughput, combinatorial screening to identify genetic combinations able to drive full malignant transformation of human B cells. These genetic perturbations will be combined with single cell RNA sequencing analysis to identify the transcriptional networks corrupted by genetic mutation during the early stages of lymphomagenesis and identify critical hubs that might be targeted therapeutically. These are challenging experiments that will employ cutting edge technology.

The successful candidate must hold (or be about to obtain) a doctorate in a relevant subject. The candidate should have experience of cell culture and molecular biology. They must be able to lead and troubleshoot a complex project and to engage effectively with bioinformatic and other project collaborators. The ability to learn quickly and to work both independently and as part of a team is essential. The post-holder will become a valued member of the Hodson Group and will supervise students and junior researchers. Excellent communication, organizational and proven problem-solving skills are essential. Experience of lymphoma or B cell biology is desirable; however, we will consider all the skills and strengths that you have.

Prospective candidates are welcome to contact Dr Hodson ([email protected] ) directly when considering an application to discuss the project in greater detail.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
