Research Associate (Fixed Term)

This position is to work with Dr Pavel Mozgunov within the Design and Analysis of Randomised Trials (DART) research theme of the MRC Biostatistics Unit (BSU). The post-holder will work on the development of response-adaptive (randomization) clinical trial designs for clinical trials, and the development of the framework for the comprehensive evaluation of trial designs via simulations. The post-holder will also have an opportunity to support implementation on novel adaptive designs in practice.

The job will primarily involve the development of statistical methodology clinical trials under the guidance of the line manager. It is expected that the post-holder will take a lead on the direction of the project after the initial period.

Specific duties will include:

  • To develop novel statistical methods for the design of response-adaptive clinical trials.
  • To develop innovative approach to the evaluation of trial design by simulations;
  • To support the implementation of adaptive methods in clinical trials.
  • To present scientific work at conferences and internal and external seminars.
  • To write scientific papers, and contribute to the overall preparation of research for publication.

Candidates for Research Associate position will have a PhD in Statistics, or a relevant subject with a strong fundamental quantitative component (e.g. Mathematics, Probability, Physics). We encourage applications from candidates with various quantitative backgrounds and willing to establish/develop their expertise in developing novel statistical methods with applications to clinical trials. The required training will be provided to the successful candidate upon the start of the role.
