We are looking for a self-motivated and ambitious research officer to provide experimental support, data analysis and data reporting based on the operation of mass spectrometers in the Centre for Analytical Bioscience (CAB) facility in the School of Pharmacy (5th in the world for Pharmacy and Pharmacology, QS World Rankings, 2022). CAB is a successful mass spectrometry (MS) facility that now houses extensive specialist MS instrumentation including high resolution MS (Thermo Exactive and QExactive Orbitrap), quadruple linear ion trap MS (QTRAP 4000 and 6500) and surface analysis interfaces (LESA and AP-MALDI). This facility provides the high-quality research environment for metabolomics, lipidomics, fluxomics, metabolic pathway profiling, biomarker identification analysis and MS imaging.

The aim of the post is to facilitate MS instrument access, operations and training for users (typically PhD students and post-doctoral researchers), consulting on aspects covering experimental design, data acquisition / analysis and reporting. These interactions generate multidisciplinary collaborative high impact research opportunities within the School of Pharmacy as well as within other schools including Biosciences, Life Sciences, Medicine, Chemistry, Veterinary Medicine and Science, and Engineering. As well as supporting research at the University of Nottingham, the role holder will have the opportunity to develop their own areas of independent research and build national and international collaborative research projects and networks. They will also write-up work for publication or dissemination and support the generation of new work by building relationships with internal and external contacts, including external travel.

The successful candidate for this post will have a PhD submitted or awarded in analytical science/mass spectrometry or an equivalent related field. They will need to demonstrate excellence in research and independent working, with a positive attitude towards communication, collaboration and interdisciplinary working. Candidates must have experience in using a range of mass spectrometry instrumentation including surface/imaging MS, high resolution MS and quantitative MS. Capacity to build commercial relationships and interact with businesses and academics is also essential. The role holder will be required to support research activities through the day-to-day management of the CAB Facility.

This full-time post (36.25 hours per week) will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 36 months. Job share arrangements may be considered.
