The University of Nottingham is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow/ Associate position to join a highly innovative and state of the art blue skies project. Based at the University of Nottingham you will have a unique opportunity to lead the research and development of novel 3D printed electromagnetic sensors that detect molecular chirality in chemical/biological systems. The successful delivery of the project has the potential to transform analytical techniques across the engineering and science disciplines.

As an enthusiastic individual, this is an exciting opportunity for you to engage in key research that is at the forefront of innovation.

A key aspect of your role will be to investigate the interactions between ferrites and chiral molecules at electromagnetic frequencies and employ 3D printing techniques to develop novel sensors.

You will be embedded in two different world leading research groups the George Green Institute of Electromagnetic Research and the Centre of Additive Manufacturing and you will be employing novel 3D printing techniques (never used before for that purpose) in ground-breaking electromagnetic applications.

You should hold or be about to obtain a PhD in an engineering, physical, chemical or material science discipline, and have knowledge or experience of experimental electromagnetics. Any experience with 3D printing of electronic components will be considered a bonus.

As a people-orientated individual, you will have the ability to influence and engage collaboratively between the teams. As a proactive person, you will have the enthusiasm and motivation to organise your own time effectively and have a flexible approach to prioritising tasks and work.

During your employment, you will be given the support and mentoring you need to nurture your talent. You will have amble opportunities for travel to attend international conferences to help you develop your current research skillset and reach your personal and professional career goals.

The University of Nottingham is committed to providing competitive employment packages whilst supporting the well-being of our staff to help them reach their full potential. As a University employee, you will have access to the resources of the university as well as a range of benefits and rewards, including staff discounts and travel schemes and a highly attractive pension scheme.

The post is offered on a full time (36.25 hours per week), fixed term contract until 31 December 2024. Job share arrangements may be considered.

Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
