This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and talented Researcher to be a part of the Power Electronics and Machines Centre (PEMC) at the University of Nottingham and become a core member of a team working on electrical machines, electromagnetic design, magnetic and insulation materials, thermal management, control, construction and testing of high-performance electrical machines. We are currently developing a range of electrical machines with industry partners spanning from high speed machines for aircraft generators, compressors and electric drive units to direct drive radial, transverse and axial machines.
The PEMC Research Group has undergone a significant period of growth and now has over 200 members, with over 24 academics (including 9 full professors) and approximately 130 PhD students, post-doctoral research fellows and applications engineers. The group has world-class facilities for experimental work including approximately 3500m2 of research space and a construction and testing capability up to 5MW.
Candidates must hold a PhD (or be near to completion) or equivalent, in engineering, applied mathematics or a related subject area, with a major component in electrical machine design or analysis.
The applicant must be able to demonstrate that they can support the design process from an electromagnetic standpoint and have the ability to do detailed analysis of electrical machines or other electromagnetic devices using analytical skills or finite element methods.
Practical experience with experimental testing of motors is desirable; in particular, experience in high frequency machines. Analytical and experimental determination of high frequency losses will be a key aspect of this job.
The ability to work in a team, lead both internally and externally, and interact/collaborate actively and professionally with industrial partners is essential.
This full-time role (36.25 hours) will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 24 months with potential to extend, subject to available funding. Job share arrangements may be considered.
If this role has sparked your interest and you have an informal inquiry, please reach out to Pav Orton, Executive Projects Coordinator to Prof. Chris Gerada at [email protected] quoting the job reference in subject area.
Please note that applications sent via email will not be accepted.
