The University of Nottingham is looking to appoint a Research Associate/Fellow to lead innovative research in composites manufacturing. This position is suitable for an early-stage researcher looking to take the first steps towards an independent career.

We are looking to appoint an expert in composites manufacturing research applicable to demanding applications within the aerospace, automotive or renewable energy sectors. Areas of interest include:

  • High-rate deposition and rapid processing technologies
  • Design for manufacture via validated simulation
  • Inspection and in-process evaluation
  • Composites sustainability, including recycling and re-use.

You will have the opportunity to use your initiative and creativity to identify new areas for research, develop research methods and extend your research portfolio. You will be based within the Composites Research Group at Nottingham, known for its’ world class research output and facilities. Your project will be funded by the EPSRC Future Composites Manufacturing Research Hub – https://cimcomp.ac.uk/ , giving you the opportunity to collaborate with 15 other UK universities, 4 High Value Manufacturing Catapult Centres and a wide network of industrial partners.  

You will have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to build relationships and collaborate with others. You must have a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area or the equivalent in professional qualifications and experience in research area (Or close to completion), together with the relevant research skills, knowledge, and track record of publishing papers (preferably in the field of polymer composites).

This full-time post (36.25 hrs/week) is available immediately and will be offered on a fixed term contract until 31st December 2024. Job share arrangements may be considered.

Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
