Salary

£28762 to £43414 per annum (pro rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience (minimum £32348 with relevant PhD). Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance

The role will be situated within the University of Nottingham’s ‘Rights Lab’, which is delivering world-leading research to address Modern Slavery. The project team also has strong links to the School of Sociology and Social Policy in the Faculty of Social Sciences, and there will be opportunities to link to vibrant academic networks within both settings.  The successful candidate will work in a team led by Dr Alison Gardner, Associate Director for Communities and Society at the Rights Lab, with additional guidance from co-investigators specialising in the methods being utilised.   

This exciting research role provides an opportunity to undertake a range of diverse qualitative research, analysis and impact activities, as part of a ground-breaking two-year project funded by the Nuffield Foundation to evidence links between cognitive impairment and exploitation in England. 

As part of their role, the role-holder may be involved in disseminating research, recommendations and outputs through academic articles, reports, blogs and briefings; contributing to workshops and conferences; engaging with stakeholders and developing strategic partnerships; developing resources for policy and practice reform; and supporting uptake of evidence-based recommendations by practitioners and policy-makers. 

Applicants are expected to hold a PhD in a relevant discipline or be close to completion (submitting no later than September 2022).  Experience of analysing secondary data is essential and applicants should be comfortable in carrying out a variety of statistical analysis techniques. This includes regression, modelling and testing. 

Working in the Rights Lab 

The Rights Lab is the first large-scale research platform for ending modern slavery. Our challenge-led, team-based approach to research fosters interdisciplinary collaboration between Rights Lab researchers representing 17 different disciplines from five different university faculties. The Rights Lab works closely with stakeholders in government, civil society, business, and intergovernmental institutions to deliver practically impactful research that speaks directly to the antislavery movement and those working in the field. We are committed to ensuring our work is relevant, timely, responsive, accessible, and actionable. This is captured in our wide variety of collaborative projects and strong long-standing relationships with key players in the global and local antislavery movement(s), our curation and development of policy and practice resources (as well as academic outputs), and our responsive research agenda.  

This role is available as an 18 month fixed-term post, starting around 1st November 2022. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours) ; however applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week).
