We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher in organic synthetic chemistry with an interest in radical new approaches to the manufacturing of organic chemicals.  The post will involve exciting research projects underway at the University of Nottingham. The vision of the project is to apply continuous reactors, including continuous photochemistry, electrochemistry, and thermal chemistry to transform how fine chemicals and medicines are manufactured.   [see for example APPLIED SPECTROSCOPY (2022) 76, 38-50; ORGANIC PROCESS RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT (2022) 26, 1145−1151; (2021) 25, 1619-1627 (2021) 25, 2052-2059; (2020), 24, 201-206; (2018) 22, 595-599]. The post is available to start immediately and all projects should lead to high impact publications. 

The post will involve lab-based research, based in Nottingham, but travel to Bristol and/or Southampton may be required. The successful candidate will have a first degree in chemistry or chemical engineering and a related PhD and a track record of successful research and research leadership. They will be computer literate with strong communications skills and a proven ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. They will be excited by variation rather than repetition and gain satisfaction from finding ways they can contribute to the success of these cutting-edge 

Projects’. Specific skills needed are experience in organic synthesis and product characterization techniques.

The person appointed will join a multidisciplinary team of approximately 30 people (postdocs and students) working at the University of Nottingham in Chemistry and Engineering (https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/research/groups/photoelectro/photo-electro.aspx   )with collaborative projects at the University of Bristol and the University of Southampton. The projects are led by Professor Mike George also involves Professors Sir Martyn Poliakoff and Pete Licence (Chemistry) and Professor Steve Pickering and Dr Richard Jefferson-Loveday (Mechanical Engineering).

The position will be offered on a fixed-term contract for six months to start as soon as possible, if the successful candidates start date is after 31st July 2022 the contract must end on the 31st January 2023.  The hours of work will be full-time (36.25 per week).  Job share arrangements may be considered.
