Research Associate/ Fellow (fixed term)

We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic physical chemist for a postdoctoral research associate post within the Atmospheric Chemistry group led by Dr Rabi Chhantyal Pun, based in the School of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham. The project will focus on kinetic and mechanistic studies of autoxidation chemistry of peroxy radicals using near-infrared cavity ring-down spectroscopy. This project will involve close collaboration with the modelling group of Prof Alex Archibald at the University of Cambridge. 

The successful candidate will carry out the following duties:

  • Undertake the development of a new pulsed laser photolysis cavity ring-down spectrometer
  • Measure near-infrared spectra and kinetics of peroxy radicals derived from biogenic emissions
  • Prepare high quality drafts for publishing the results from these studies
  • Present results at international conferences

Candidate must:

  • Hold a PhD (or be close to completion) in physical chemistry, chemical physics or atmospheric chemistry
  • Have a proven track record of excellence in advanced spectroscopic methods, preferably demonstrated by previous publication record
  • Have excellent organisational, communication and team working skills
  • Be available to take up the post from 3rd of January 2023, or soon thereafter

The post is available on a fixed term contract initially for 2 years ( until 02 January 2025) and could be extended for 1 more year upon mutual agreement (until 02 January 2026). Hours of work are full time, (36.25 hours per week) and job share arrangements may be considered.
