We are inviting applications for the role of Research Associate/Fellow to join a research team based in the School of Medicine.  You will be part of a project team examining antidepressant prescribing in people prescribed opioids for pain, funded by the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration East Midlands.  This is an exciting opportunity to work with large clinical research databases and address health issues that are of increasing importance and concern to patients.  You will be responsible for preparing the dataset and carrying out statistical analysis to determine which factors are associated with opioid and antidepressant co-prescribing.  As well as preparing a paper for publication in a peer-reviewed medical journal, you will lead other dissemination activities, such as publicising the findings to professional groups, and relevant groups in the general population.

We are seeking someone who has an in depth understanding of research methodology and epidemiological methods and is able to carry out statistical analyses using Stata or R, interpret findings and present results.  You should have experience of dealing with large datasets and be able to communicate clearly to a variety of audiences.

Research Associate/Fellows should be working towards or have obtained a PhD in medical statistics, epidemiology, health services research, public health, statistics or similar subjects with a strong numeric component.

You will join the Centre for Academic Primary Care’s Primary Care Epidemiology group within the Lifespan and Population Health academic unit.  We are a team using large clinical datasets for research on a variety of health issues, including mental health, and safety of prescribed medications.  We have strong links to Public and Patient Involvement groups, ensuring that the work we do is relevant and important to the people it affects.  The project team involves colleagues across the University of Nottingham, including clinicians, pharmacists and public contributors.

The post will start on the 1st September 2022 and will be available on a full-time basis (36.25 hours per week) for 9 months. Applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 18.13 hours per week). If you wish to work part time the contract length will be increased to a maximum of 18 months depending on hours.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Ruth Jack, tel: 0115 7486679 or email [email protected]. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
