Applications are invited for the role of Research Associate/Fellow at the University of Nottingham to work within a multidisciplinary team led by Dr. Isabella Maiellaro.

The researcher will have specific responsibility for carrying out fundamental research and delivering research objectives for a research project investigating the role and subcellular RNA localisation and translation in sensory nerve terminals and how they can impact responses to noxious stimuli that lead to persistent chronic pain. For this state of the art molecular tools and in vivo imaging and a simple, powerful, and ethical in vivo model (Drosophila melanogaster larvae), combined with mammalian neuronal models in culture  will be employed to identify conserved mechanisms that mediate pain processes and neuronal sensitisation.

The person appointed will be expected to plan and conduct research within the project proposal, suggesting, designing and using approaches or methodologies and techniques and working in compliance with all appropriate safety and legal requirements.

We are part of a highly active and interdisciplinary research environment that is inserted within the Pain Centre Versus Arthritis and the RNA Interdisciplinary Cluster (RIC@N) at the University of Nottingham, who foster a team science approach to their research. The person appointed will have the opportunity to use their initiative and creativity to identify areas of methodological advance and research innovation to extend their career development. Support in this process will include conference attendance, scientific publications and fellowship writing as appropriate.

This full-time role (36.25 hours) is available on a fixed-term basis to 2nd July 2027. Arrangements for job share may be considered.

Informal enquiries may be addressed Dr. Isabella Maiellaro: [email protected]. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
