We are recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate/Fellow to the School of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham, to work under the direction of Prof. Deborah Kays on the synthesis and reactivity of low-coordinate organometallic complexes as part of a Leverhulme Trust-funded project entitled “Driving CO Scission and Homologation Reactions Using Organometallic Complexes”. This project is a collaboration between Prof. Deborah Kays, Prof. Jon McMaster, Dr Darren Walsh (University of Nottingham) and Dr David Robinson (Nottingham Trent University).
The successful candidate will develop a programme of experimental research to undertake scission and homologation reactions of carbon monoxide using highly reactive transition metal complexes, including in-depth analysis of compounds and mechanistic investigations. The candidate will write high quality scientific research articles, present research internally at group meetings and externally at national and international conferences, liaise with academic collaborators, contribute to the supervision of student projects and to the maintenance and smooth running of the research laboratory.
Successful candidates should have a first degree in Chemistry and a PhD (or close to completion) in Inorganic Chemistry or fields strongly aligned with these areas. In addition, candidates should have hands-on experience in synthetic organometallic chemistry, including reactivity and mechanistic investigations, a track record of the characterisation of molecular compounds and an in-depth knowledge of the application of anaerobic chemistry techniques. Excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to manage the day-to-day running of a research project and a track record of high-quality publications and presentations commensurate with stage of career are also essential.
The post is available from 1st October 2021 and is fixed term for 36 months. Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours). Job share arrangements may be considered.
